Parallel Imports Regime For Books to Stay

November 16th 2009

The Federal Government announced on 11 November 2009 that Australia’s copyright laws in relation to the importation of copyright books will remain.

In doing so, the Government rejected the Productivity Commission’s recommendations to remove the existing parallel import restrictions.  The Government (and the Commission) saw the removal as potentially damaging to Australian authors, publishers and culture.
